Abstract:

Background: Neonatal sepsis remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in developing countries, with

Staphylococcus aureus being one of the leading causative organisms. The rising occurrence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains poses significant therapeutic challenges. This study aimed to determine the antibiotic resistance pattern and multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) index of S. aureus isolated from neonatal sepsis cases in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) of a secondary healthcare facility in Katsina State, Nigeria. Abstract:

Background: The global spread of extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) and carbapenemase-producing strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, is considered a major public health threat to humans. Antimicrobial resistance mediated by New Delhi Metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) enzyme has become a major threat to treatment outcome. This study is aimed at investigating the carriage rate of blaNDM gene among multidrug resistant (MDR) clinical K. pneumoniae isolates from four selected health facilities in Calabar, Nigeria.
